Many of you will know Tricia Reust from her long association with Arthouse Northside and with the Redcliffe Art Society.  A Master Pastellist, a mixer of mediums and a magical teacher, Tricia wears many hats and is a busy and valued member of our art community.

Tricia works in many mediums and particularly loves to combine media in her work.  Her subject matter varies from landscapes to portraits with interesting textures and marks being the present constant in her pieces.

We took a few minutes of Tricia’s time to learn a bit more about her artwork for our art community.

  1. What is your name? and your art business name if it’s different?

Tricia Reust, Visual Artist

  1. Describe your artwork. Do you have a specific style that you’re known for?

Work in all media except watercolour and technical/ video/performance etc.

A Love of Drawing

  1. What made you start creating?

Have always drawn, mum said I was making marks before walking.

  1. What is your preferred medium?

Any type of drawing

  1. What is your preferred subject matter?

If I didn’t have to try to make some return in order to purchase art materials, I would simply draw and paint people.

  1. Who has been most influential to your artwork?

Kathe Kollwitz

  1. What part of being an artist do you love and what do you find most difficult?

Love being privileged with time and space to create; most difficult thing is dealing with the fact that the world is being littered with rubbish and I am producing art every day that ends up hanging around until I rip it up for collage or repaint over the surface. Am I just adding to the litter of the world?

Create Your Own Voice

  1. If you could give your artist self in your past some advice what would it be?

Stop worrying about what others think and stay determined to develop an individual visual voice.

  1. What question would you like to ask one of your artist hero’s? Who would it be?

George Gittoes – how did you carry your art materials over all those war zones and cope with the trauma?

  1. What is the most valuable tool in your studio?

Charcoal.

Exhibitions, Workshops & Tricia’s Latest Book

  1. What are you working on at the moment?

Retexturing the surfaces of old art works and glazing/drawing on them. Have completed the works for the joint exhibition “Redcliffe Reflections” 14th April to 9th May; creating new works for a solo exhibition at Aveo in Durack in May; doing a portrait with wet pastel over collage for the Master Pastellist exhibition in October; preparing for a Mixed Media workshop in Crows Nest this weekend and a Chroma workshop tomorrow in Redcliffe. I am the Exhibition Coordinator for the PSA so am preparing for the Annual Awards 2021 exhibition (on-line and also at Latrobe Artspace in Paddington) and the Master Pastellist Exhibition 2021 at the Old Fire Station Gallery in October.

And……………………finishing an acrylic painting clean and varnish while waiting for the oil one to be dry enough to varnish! For a lovely art shop owner who has a lot of patience with me.

You can find Tricia’s Work on display at the Redcliffe Fire Station Gallery from the 14th of April until the 9th of May 2021 and beyond that on her website: https://triciareust.com.au/
