In the scheme of things there is far less mediums to use with watercolour paints than there are with oils or acrylics. The mediums on offer though are still incredibly useful for extending the use of your materials and creating interesting effects.
Ox Gall is a medium that was a mystery in our shop until we decided to do some research and find out why we were stocking it. This is what we learned:
What can Ox Gall be used for?
- ox gall is a wetting agent that is used in watercolour, paper marbelling, engraving & lithography
- flow improver, particularly on smooth, heavy paper
- helps with mixing and blending of colours
- used on hard paper to reduce surface tension
What else should we know about Ox Gall as a medium?
Arthouse Northside stocks Art Spectrum Synthetic Ox Gall, Schmincke Ox Gall and Winsor and Newton Ox Gall.
